How to Test for AIDS & STDs Part Two
Perform a Western blot to verify that the positive results are really positive.
Know that gonorrhea and chlamydia are common, curable sexually transmitted diseases that can be run simultaneously using the GenProbe Aptima II machine. There is a newer model of this machine called Tiger, which is much more automated. The general steps of the testing process are the same.
Set buffer to be tested, at least 200, in trays tubes that come with the system. Place them on the left side of the empty stage with 200 plastic test tubes on the right. Scan patient information into the computer system so that the tube law is consistent with good patient.
Activate the test phase in the machine so that the buffer liquid is exposed to the primer and other reagents. Stir in clear plastic tubes with a stirrer, incubate for an hour and read using an illuminometer. Positive Re-testing to ensure they are not false positives.
